The Closer it is on cable network TNT. The Closer is an award-winning winning show that is just ending its third season. The last show is September 9 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.. This is a two-part ending to the third season. Normally the show is 60 minutes every week. It usually starts in the summer on TNT.
The Closer stars Kyra Sedwick as Brenda Lee Johnson, deputy chief of the priority murder squad in Los Angeles. Brenda Lee came to Los Angeles, three years ago at the request of her new supervisor Will Pope played by actor JK Simmons who was one of the stars in Oz on HBO series
Kyra Sedwick won the Emmy for best dramatic actress in a series for her role in The Closer. Her character, Brenda Lee Johnson is a Southern Belle. She is very polite and enjoys eating lots of junk food, and is also a very smart detective.
Season one of The Closer was very interesting because of the dynamics of Brenda getting to know her detectives in her special priority murder unit. There was a lot of tension between her and the detectives. Most did not like her or her style. But they all came to respect, admire and even like her by the end of season one.
Brenda Lee has a knack for discovering the truth as to who murdered the victim. She specializes in handling interviews in the room they call the box (the interrogation room) where they bring in suspects and question them about the murder.
She seems to understand the motivation of the various characters who are in the murder victim’s life. Often the person she identifies as the murderer is someone likable that you would not suspect as being a possible murderer.
In fact, we think this may happen too often. So, one hint, if you’re trying to guess who the murderer is to look at the most sympathetic character in this episode. That could very well be the murderer. This is the only flaw that we see in the plot line and writing of this crime show.
After all, sometimes the bad guy really is the bad guy and should be the murderer not the innocent appearing father, who is taking care of his son who’s dying from cancer.
Brenda Lee Johnson’s personal life is also interesting she has a colorful set of parents who have come out to visit her in Hollywood, and her boyfriend is a FBI agent.
There is also a back story that her now current supervisor Will Pope was her lover when she worked in Atlanta,Georgia. And she has an antagonistic relationship with other agencies such as Homeland Security, the FBI and even divisions in the LA police department.
All in all this is a very interesting crime drama with a colorful lead character, interesting plots and a good cast of supporting actors.
The show only airs during the summer months, which is nice because sometimes there isn’t much else on TV in the summer. At least you have this good show to look forward to. We recommend the show.
