Entourage show HBO is a very good 30 minute comedy. It has been nominated for seven Emmy nominations for the 2007 season. And certainly deserves these nominations.
The plot consists of a young up-and-coming new star named Vince Chase ( played by Adrian Grenier) and his entourage of friends from his old neighborhood back in New Jersey.
The entourage dream team are young and have high hopes for benefiting from Vince’s success. Success here means expensive cars, beautiful young girls and great homes in the Hollywood Hills. Of course all this is based on Vince being paid millions of dollars for his movie roles.
The guys have all the adventures and misadventures of young twenty-something men checking out the girls. The show does include playful lighthearted sex scenes.
Because of the big bucks that Vince makes these young men don’t have to worry about money…so they really spend money fast and and without thought.
This also makes an interesting study of Vince’s entourage greed. Or is it greed or just enjoying life when you’re young and have the money to do whatever you want?
But the main focus of the Entourage TV series and what makes it so fascinating are the maneuvers and discussions about what happens in behind the scenes Hollywood. We see how a movie gets a green light.
We see Vince and gang finding a script they like then trying to talk directors, producers, agents, whoever into green lighting the movie. Personalities and grudges influence how movie decisions are made.
In the past seasons, they showed how the young star was forced to do a blockbuster action hero movie that he didn’t really want to do. It was a great success and now Vince is happy that he did the movie mainly because of the money and the increase in his star status.. But like most actors he wants to do important art type films.
This season, he is promoting his new movie Medellín, an arty film based on a life of a drug dealer. There’s a lot of buzz about the movie.
The season ends by Vince and company going to the Cannes Film Festival for the first airing of Medellín .Things don’t quite work out the way the entourage group hopes for. But life goes on and things have a way of working out in Hollywood.
